ADISA Announces 2022 President-Elect and Officers

At its first Board meeting of the year, the new ADISA (the Alternative & Direct Investment Securities Association) Board, elected by the membership in late 2021, selected its 2022 officers. Sherri Cooke of iCapital Network, begins her term as the 2022 ADISA president, and Michael Underhill of Capital Innovations was elected as the 2022 president-elect and will serve as president in 2023. The other ADISA officers selected were: Angela Barbera of NexPoint Securities as vice president; Catherine Bowman of The Bowman Law Firm as secretary; and Mark Kosanke of Concorde Investment Services as treasurer. Matthew Malone of Londsdale Investment Technology, ADISA’s 2021 president, will serve the Board as its immediate past president. Furthermore, Sylvia Kwan, Chief Investment Officer at Ellevest, was also elected by the Board to serve as a director for a one-year term.

Serving as ADISA’s 2022 President, Sherri Cooke is Senior Vice President, Business Development at iCapital Network. She has been in the financial services industry for more than 25 years. She founded AI Insight, now a part of iCapital, which is the industry’s online go-to resource for alternative investment research, training and compliance support. Prior to forming AI Insight, Cooke was a consultant to the industry providing insight on product structuring and positioning, product education, and strategic implementation of alternative investments products within the broker-dealer community.

Michael Underhill is Chief Investment Officer/CEO of Capital Innovations, where he is responsible for overseeing global equity investment strategies and leads Capital Innovations’ Investment Policy Group, a forum for analyzing broader secular and cyclical trends that Capital Innovations believes will influence investment opportunities. Recognized for his expertise in real asset investing, he is a regular contributor to Bloomberg Television, Radio and Bloomberg Events. Prior to co-founding Capital Innovations in 2007, Underhill was a vice president portfolio manager at AllianceBernstein and a vice president and partner at INVESCO in the financial institutions asset management division where he was responsible for over $8 billion in assets.

Angela Barbera is a Managing Director at NexPoint Securities, where she is responsible for leading the company’s national accounts, due diligence, marketing and business development initiatives, growing the selling group for NexPoint’s investment products, and is an instrumental component of product strategy development for the firm. She has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, most of which was spent establishing distribution partnerships and launching new investments and initiatives across various product lines. Prior to joining NexPoint in July 2019, Barbera was Executive Vice President at Steadfast Capital Markets Group. 

Catherine Bowman founded The Bowman Law Firm in 2008 in order to conduct due diligence on public and private securities offerings ranging in size to several billion dollars on behalf of independent broker-dealers, investment advisers, and other financial professionals. Bowman also provides consulting on broker-dealer regulatory and compliance matters; researching ’33 Act and ’34 Act laws and regulations, broker-dealer regulations and state securities laws and regulations; contract negotiation and drafting; as well as providing expert witness services. Prior to founding The Bowman Law Firm, Bowman was Chief Compliance Officer, Senior Vice President and Corporate Counsel for CNL Securities Corp., and started her law career more than 25 years ago at Gray, Harris & Robinson, focusing on corporate and securities law practice for publicly held and privately held clients.

Mark Kosanke, CPA, has nearly 30 years of Securities Industry experience. He is one of the founders of Concorde Investment Services (CIS), a Michigan-based Securities Broker/ Dealer firm and is a current owner of Concorde Holdings, CIS’s parent company. He is a President of Concorde Financial Group, which operates as an investment and asset management firm. Prior to Concorde he was at the Detroit office of Price Waterhouse where he concentrated on audit, taxes, and real estate. Mark is active in strategic tax planning and investment portfolio design with over $200 million in assets under management. He is recognized nationally for his proficiency in the 1031 Exchange area. 

Matthew Malone is Head of Investment Management at Lonsdale Investment Technology and President of Lonsdale Investment Management, a technology-driven alternative investment platform for private wealth managers. He previously served a number of roles at FS Investments, an alternative investment asset management platform with over $20 billion in assets under management, including Head of Due Diligence and Managing Director, Real Estate overseeing product management of FS Investments’ real estate platform. Prior to joining FS, Malone was a partner at Snyder Kearney performing research and due diligence on hundreds of public and private alternative investment offerings representing over $50 billion in capital raised, including interval funds, non-listed REITs and BDCs, on behalf of independent broker-dealers and registered investment advisors.

Darryl Steinhause of DLA Piper also serves as a non-voting, volunteer legal counsel and Thomas Voekler of Kaplan Voekler Cunningham & Frank provides volunteer hospitality legal counsel.
