ADISA proudly represents the non-traded alternative investment space in Washington. Whether in combination with other associations, as part of an issue coalition, or fighting on our own, ADISA’s efforts in 2015-2016 constituted important and additional advocacy for our industry:

DOL Fiduciary Rule

  • Joined SIFMA-led Fiduciary Rule coalition in May 2015
  • Launched DOL Fiduciary Rule webinar in May 2015
  • Submitted comment letter to DOL in July 2015
  • Opened automated contact Congress website for public in August 2015 (resulting in over 400 letters to Congress)*
  • Appeared before DOL hearings in August 2015
  • Attended meetings with Congressional offices (Senate) in August 2015
  • Submitted second comment letter to follow up on hearings to DOL in September 2015
  • Contributed to SIFMA-led coalition in October 2015*
  • Meetings with Congressional offices (House and Senate) in March 2016
  • Compiled review of research literature  for presentation to OMB, March 2016*
  • Appeared before Office of Management and Budget in March 2016*
  • Published dedicated DOL Fiduciary Rule issue of Alternative Investment Quarterly (Winter 2016 issue) to familiarize investment professionals with the issue*
  • Supported House Congressional Review Act (CRA) efforts in April/May 2016*
  • Supported Senate Congressional Review Act (CRA) efforts in May 2016*

IRS Section 1031 Like-kind Exchange
  • Contributed to and assisted FEA (Federation of Exchange Accommodators) in reviewing 1031 general economic effect study by Ernst & Young – 2015
  • Contributed to and assisted Real Estate Roundtable  in reviewing 1031 LKE real estate economic study by Syracuse University and University of Florida – 2015*
  • Held meetings with Congress (House) to discuss 1031 issue – March 2015
  • Participated in FEA’s Hill Day to discuss 1031 issues – March 2015
  • Opened automated Contact Congress website for public in April 2015*
  • Attended meetings with Congress (Senate) to discuss 1031 issue – May 2015
  • Participated in review of third academic paper on effect of 2013 LKEs on economy – April 2016*
